Backend Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join the core infrastructure team at an energy technology company building systems for dynamic electricity plans and reliable billing. You will develop scalable backend services that support energy-market communications, billing workflows, and accounting.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Design backend systems that simplify complex billing and energy-market workflows.
• Scale core infrastructure to support increasing transaction volumes and market demands.
• Ship features and improvements through rapid iteration and practical problem-solving.
• Contribute to technical quality through code reviews, architecture decisions, and mentorship.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• At least 3 years of hands-on backend engineering experience, including recent production coding and shipping.
• Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills, including asynchronous programming.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and ORM-based data access, such as Drizzle or similar tools.
• Experience building backend services with Next.js, including API routes or server components.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and designing scalable, maintainable services.
• Strong computer science fundamentals gained through formal education or equivalent practical experience.
• Evidence of exceptional technical ability through notable projects, research, competition results, founding work, or comparable achievements.
• Fluency in German at C1 level or higher.
• Experience integrating Stripe payments and billing workflows is helpful.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Annual base salary: €80,000 to €120,000. Visa sponsorship is available.

LOCATION

On-site in Berlin, Germany, five days per week.
