Backend Engineer

About The Role

The role focuses on designing and operating the backend services that power the core product - APIs, data pipelines, and distributed systems handling high request volumes with strict latency and reliability requirements.

You will work in a Go/Java/Python environment on top of PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka, collaborating directly with frontend engineers and product teams to ship user-facing features end-to-end.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable REST and gRPC APIs in Go, Python, or Java that serve production traffic at scale
• Own services end-to-end - architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and on-call ownership across the lifecycle
• Model and optimize relational schemas in PostgreSQL, including query tuning, indexing strategy, and migration tooling
• Build event-driven workflows using Kafka or RabbitMQ, ensuring idempotency, ordering guarantees, and failure recovery
• Improve observability across the stack with structured logging, distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry), and actionable dashboards in Grafana or Datadog
• Containerize and deploy services using Docker and Kubernetes, participating in CI/CD pipeline design and incremental rollouts
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and incident retrospectives; contribute to team engineering standards and documentation

What We Are Looking For

• 3–7 years of backend software engineering experience, including building and operating services in production
• Deep proficiency in at least one systems language: Go, Java, Kotlin, or Python with strong API design fundamentals
• Solid relational database experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design and performance tuning
• Hands-on experience with message queues or event streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS) in production systems
• Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized deployment with Kubernetes or ECS
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience; strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally
• Bonus: Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, Terraform, or gRPC; contributions to open-source projects; prior experience in high-growth startup environments
