Overview

We’re looking for an exceptional Senior Java Developer with strong Aeron and low-latency engineering experience to join a high-performance technology team building cutting-edge, latency-sensitive systems.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Java engineer to work on highly concurrent, performance-critical applications where speed, reliability and efficient system design are paramount.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Java, hands-on experience with Aeron, and a strong understanding of JVM performance optimisation and low-latency system architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise ultra-low-latency Java applications.
• Build high-performance messaging and communication systems using Aeron .
• Profile, benchmark and tune applications to minimise latency, garbage collection and CPU overhead.
• Develop highly concurrent, multithreaded systems with predictable performance.
• Optimise JVM behaviour, memory management, object allocation and garbage collection.
• Work closely with architects and other engineers to deliver scalable, resilient and high-throughput solutions.
• Investigate complex performance bottlenecks and drive continuous improvements.
• Contribute to technical design decisions, code quality and engineering best practices.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Extensive commercial experience developing high-performance applications in Java .
• Proven, hands-on experience with Aeron , ideally including Aeron Cluster and/or Aeron Archive.
• Strong experience designing and developing low-latency, high-throughput systems .
• Excellent understanding of JVM internals, garbage collection, memory allocation and performance tuning.
• Strong knowledge of multithreading, concurrency, lock-free programming and CPU-level performance optimisation.
• Experience with profiling, benchmarking and performance analysis.
• Solid understanding of network protocols, messaging architectures and distributed systems.
• A strong engineering mindset, with a focus on measurable performance improvements and clean, maintainable code.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in electronic trading, capital markets or other latency-sensitive environments.
• Familiarity with Linux performance tuning and operating system internals.
• Knowledge of CPU cache behaviour, memory barriers, mechanical sympathy and hardware-aware optimisation.
• Experience with Chronicle, Disruptor or similar high-performance technologies.
• Familiarity with network-level optimisation and efficient binary protocols.
