Senior Software Engineer – Risk Services (Java / Python)

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop and enhance scalable backend systems supporting risk data processing, analytics and reporting within a financial markets technology environment.

The role focuses on building distributed systems and enterprise-grade applications using Java and Python, working across risk data ingestion, processing pipelines and downstream analytics. You will contribute to system design, performance optimisation and production stability, collaborating with risk, front-office and data teams to deliver robust technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and enhance backend services and distributed systems supporting risk data and analytics platforms.
• Build and maintain scalable applications using Java (Spring / Spring Boot) and Python.
• Develop solutions for risk data ingestion, transformation and processing pipelines.
• Contribute to system architecture, design reviews and performance optimisation.
• Work with large datasets supporting risk calculations, reporting and downstream analytics.
• Collaborate with risk, front-office and data teams to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, testing and release processes to ensure high-quality delivery.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, focusing on system stability and performance.

Must-Have Skills

• Strong Java (Spring / Spring Boot) and Python development experience.
• Proven experience building distributed systems and microservices architectures.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms and system design principles.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale data processing systems.
• Experience with messaging frameworks such as Kafka or MQ.
• Strong working knowledge of Unix/Linux environments.
• Experience with XML and enterprise data integration patterns.
• Familiarity with modern development practices, including CI/CD pipelines, build and deployment processes, and unit and integration testing.

Domain Experience

• Understanding of financial markets products, including Rates, Credit, Equities and Derivatives.
• Exposure to risk data flows and analytics pipelines within capital markets.
• Familiarity with risk reporting systems, trade lifecycles and PnL workflows.
• Experience working with enterprise financial platforms or comparable large-scale environments.
