This hands-on Staff Software Engineer opportunity is focused on developing production-grade platform software and internal tools, alongside evolving a modern Google Cloud environment. You’ll bring strong software engineering expertise to platform challenges, shape technical direction, and improve how teams build, deploy, and operate applications.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, test, and maintain production platform services, APIs, command-line tools, and self-service capabilities.
• Develop reusable abstractions that simplify infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, and environment management.
• Build and evolve cloud infrastructure on GCP, including production Kubernetes environments on GKE.
• Create and maintain reusable Terraform modules and automated infrastructure provisioning workflows.
• Improve CI/CD and GitOps processes, integrating them with internal platform tools.
• Strengthen platform reliability, security, scalability, and observability through monitoring, alerting, and service objectives.
• Lead technical initiatives from architecture and stakeholder alignment through delivery and ongoing operations.
• Partner with application teams, mentor engineers, and contribute to shared production on-call support.

Must-Have Skills:

• Extensive experience developing and shipping production applications, backend services, APIs, or distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Go, Python, or another modern backend language, with experience building production software beyond scripts and configuration.
• Hands-on experience building internal developer tools, platform services, APIs, CLIs, or self-service infrastructure capabilities.
• Deep production experience with Google Cloud Platform and designing, deploying, and operating GKE environments.
• Advanced Terraform skills, including reusable modules and automated cloud provisioning.
• Strong knowledge of cloud networking, IAM, security, Kubernetes architecture, and distributed systems.
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, containerization, and modern software delivery practices.
• Ability to independently own complex technical initiatives, make architectural decisions, and collaborate effectively across teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Previous experience as a Senior, Staff, or Principal Software Engineer building backend systems.
• Experience with internal developer platforms, developer portals, infrastructure control planes, or platform APIs.
• Familiarity with Backstage, Atlantis, GitOps, or ArgoCD.
• Experience with GKE Gateway API, Cloudflare, WAF, or edge networking.
• Knowledge of Redis, service discovery, caching, and distributed application infrastructure.
• Experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or other observability frameworks.
• Experience implementing cloud cost optimization or FinOps practices.
• Background in high-volume e-commerce or other transaction-intensive environments.
